Good Friday is upon us once again. Too many people it just means time off from work, a time to get together with friends, and have relatives in from out of town for the weekend. But it is so much more than that. The world, and today's society, have commercialized what the true meaning of Good Friday and Easter are all about. They have corrupted it with Easter eggs, chocolate bunnies, and marshmallow chicks. We see advertisements for Easter presents and flowers, but even these do not share the true meaning of these special days.

No matter how corrupt or insane the world has become, or is becoming, we must not lose site of the true meaning of this weekend and these special days. The world may reject what we believe and teach. The world may hate us for it and ridicule and scorn us, but we must remember, we are NOT here to please the world, we are here to please God. The reason for the world's attitude is because it does not like to be told what it is doing is wrong. It does not want to hear the truth because the truth convicts it of its wrongdoing and evil ways. So instead of dealing with the fact that it is guilty of sin, it strikes out at those who present the Word of God. Christ told us that this would happen:

The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
John 7:7

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
John 15:18

Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
1 John 3:13

But no matter how the world feels about us or what we teach we must go boldly forward and continue in spreading the Word of Christ and doing good for those who would want to see us to harm.

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Matthew 5:44

Only this way can we set an example for the world and show them that no matter what they say or do we will not falter in our faith. We must remind the world what the Easter weekend is all about. We must remind them that Christ was arrested, beaten, scourged, and crucified for our sins and that He rose from the dead three days later. We must tell them of the importance of Christ in their life, especially now with the world in such a state of hate and chaos. Christ and Christ alone is the only one who can give us peace, safety and life. It is not the president or another world leader, the United Nations, the European Union, or any other person or earthly organization that can bring peace and safety. They claim to represent peace, but use force and violence to try to bring their "peace" about.

For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
1 Thessalonians 5:3

Also read:

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 14:6

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved
Acts 4:12

This Good Friday and Easter weekend share the truth of what this celebration is all about. Ask someone to Church who does not know Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour. Set an example for the world and those around you. In this way we can bring the Light of the Truth back to this darkened world during these times of evil and rebellion.

May the Lord bless and watch over everyone this Easter weekend and may the Lord use you to show those around you why they need Christ.
