December 1999 The holiday season is here. For many, it is a festive time of year, for others, it is a time of wonder, and still for others, it is a very lonely and depressing time for them. For many Christians, at this time of year they tend to struggle with the very same issues. These people see that everyone else has everything and they feel like a nobody because they're not surrounded with family and friends. They sink into an attitude of "I'm nobody." As my good friend Evangelist Billy Tuggle would say, "It's Satan that brings about stinkin' thinkin'." He's right, and when a person allows Satan to come in and set up house, all kinds of havoc break out. John 10:10 tells us this: "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." Jesus is letting us know that Satan isn't your friend! When depression starts overriding correct thought, and a person begins to believe they're not any good, or not worth the mud on a person's shoe, thoughts of suicide creep in a little at a time. The enemy begins to plant thoughts and ideas so he can score a point. Jesus tells us that Satan is the father of lies and there is no truth in him (see John 8:44). Remember that Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Suicide is never the answer for anything. It's a permanent solution to a temporary problem. The thing is that Satan wants you to believe it's a permanent problem. NOT WITH GOD! The devil wants the despair to eat the person alive, like a roaring lion, he seeks to devour! Suicide is not the answer. The answer is Jesus! 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20 says, "Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own. For you were bought at a price therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God's." The price was Christ who died on the cross for us who believe, with those who are hurting and lost or just hurting. Don't let the hustle and bustle of the overrated holidays get you down. Every day with Jesus is a blessed day. If you're hurting and sad, go to Jesus in prayer, look in the Word of God, and ask the family of God to help. The Body of Christ, when knitted together can figure many things out because they seek the Lord. Our peace and joy are in the Lord Jesus Christ, not in a day or some celebration. It is most certainly not in some pretty paper and ribbons of gold, nor in blinking lights and an over-decorated tree. Granted, these things look nice, but they do not bring comfort and they do not fill the emptiness. Only Jesus can fill that void in their life that seems 10 times magnified during the holidays. The evil one uses it to his advantage. Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us. He's right by our side. He's that friend that sticks closer than a brother. Please remember this holiday season that if you're hurting, don't be afraid to reach out to Jesus and the family of God, and if you know someone who is hurting, do not hesitate to reach out and share the love of Christ. Once again, every day is a blessed day with JESUS!
May the Lord bless you all with joy and peace. (c) 1999 by Pastor Aaron D. Lint
