For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23

We often hear people put levels on sin. People saying one sin is greater than the other, or because he committed this sin or that sin he is condemned. This is just not true. For to God, sin is sin. They are al the same.

I am always amazed how people like to place certain sins about other sins, and how some men say, "I never sin," and others may even say, "I can do all I want and God will forgive me."

It is like two brothers, a little brother and a big brother. Big brother kicked a hole in the bathroom door and the little brother went and told. But it was the little brother who antagonized the big brother. When it came time to confront their father about what happened, the little brother thought to himself, "I won't get into trouble for my big brother did a worse thing." When the punishment was dealt out, big brother had to forfeit his allowance to pay for the door, and the little brother was grounded for the night to his room. even though the little brother didn't kick the hole in the door, he still caused trouble. When we sin, whether it is a big sin, little sin, or some sin in between, it is still SIN to God?

Why Do We Sin?

  1. We sin because it is self-gratifying to the flesh.

    1. Sin fells good. It takes total control of our will if we let it.

    2. When something feels good, we often don't think of it as a bad thing.

  2. King Solomon was blessed with great wisdom from God.

    1. He lusted after the exotic women.

      1. With that lust came ruin.
        1. Like a drug addict, the addict returns to get another fix because it fulfills the lust of the flesh. It feels good to the addict.

        2. Hebrews 11:25 tells us: "Choosing [speaking of Moses] rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season." The term "season" here is referring to just a moment in time.

        3. Sin only lasts for a moment.

          1. Look at Hue Hefner and the torment he has had to suffer because he chose to live in sin.

          2. Mary Kay Laturno - Because desired a moment of sin, now she faces more time in prison.

Why Should We Not Sin?

  1. The wages of sun is death.

    1. Sin separates us from God and we are subject to death by His wrath.

      1. It is good to remember that God's love is perfect, so must His wrath be perfect also.

  2. Paul wrote in Romans 6:14: "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." In other words, the child of God doesn't have to sin.

    1. Sin doesn't have power over you.

    2. We are not controlled by laws.

    3. By God's favor do we have control.

Romans 6:12 tells us: "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof."

In this passage Paul is telling us that as believers we must do our part, a choice we must make, to follow sin or to refuse obedience to sin and offer ourselves totally unto God.

I know a man who was submersed into homosexuality, but he chose to leave it, to refuse obedience to the sin, and he gave himself totally unto God! He walks righteously with God now because he made a choice.

How Does The Carnal Self Let Sin Control Us?

  1. In the carnal man is the pride of life, the lust of the eye, the feeling of want.

    1. Carnal man desires to sin.

      1. People don't like to examine themselves, to look inside. Because if they did, most of the time they wouldn't like what they see.

  2. In 2 Corinthians 13:5 we find: "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?"

    1. We are to look at ourselves daily.

  3. Hebrews 12:4 tells us: "Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin."

    1. Christ endured and went to the cross for us, to shed His blood for us. How much more is it if we are able to endure sin to become more Christ like?

  4. John writes in 1 John 2:1: "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous."

    1. John writes unto us that we will not sin, but if we do sin, Jesus Christ speaks on our behalf.

    2. The choice is ours to confess our sins unto him.

      1. In Proverbs 28:13 we find: "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy."

    3. This doesn't mean we can go out and keep on sinning and say, "Hey that's ok because God will forgive me."

      1. Hebrews 10:26 tells us: "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins."

Like the little brother that keeps on antagonizing the big brother, the father will take harsh actions against him. He is bringing this upon himself because he chooses to keep on disobeying and not listen to his father's instructions.

When we decide to step out of God's grace and keep on sinning we lose out on the blessings of God.

If we choose to keep on serving sin, we are choosing death, for the wages of sin is death.

It is time for us to rise above sin. We must confess our sins unto God though the only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. We need to choose to let God's favor control our will that we may stand separate from sin, no longer serving and no longer being a servant to sin, but free in the Lord Jesus Christ. Are you serving sin today? Come, let God set you free from sin. Let God break the shackles of sin that are holding you. Come today and receive that wonderful gift God so freely gives, the gift of eternal life found only in Jesus Christ. Let's not be victims of easy believism, that you will be saved from hell and don't worry about sin. It is time for us to wake up and see the truth, hear the truth, and know the truth (see John 3:32).

You better worry about sin, because if it continues to separate you from God, you will not be saved from hell. You can be saved from sin today. Christ will save you from eternal damnation and from hell when you repent of your sins. The bonds are broken in Christ Jesus and you are in union with God through Christ Jesus. So let's receive that free gift today, the gift of everlasting life with Christ Jesus the Lord.
