If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
John 13:17

Have you ever seen a person who was really doing something they didn't like? For example, such as a job. They were so unhappy that they regretted even going to work. But the people who have been blessed with a job they love are happy.

When we stand outside the will of God, we are not blessed like we should be. As a young man growing up, I didn't do the will of God. I was not blessed. I was not happy at all. When I found God I found happiness.

Where we can find real happiness:

  1. Jesus said, "If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them" (John 13:17).

    1. In the Greek the word "blessed" is Makarios (pronounced Mak-ar-ee-os), which means, fortunate, well off, blessed, happy.

  2. Jesus says that we will blessed if we do them. Okay, so do what? In Matthew 7:24 we find: "Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock."

    1. We can begin to see that happiness is found in obeying the Word of God, following His will.

    2. James 1:22-25 tell us: "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed."

Happy in what he does:

  1. Isn't there happiness in ourselves?

    1. I always thought that I could find happiness in my job or somewhere else. I know a man who said he found happiness in his wife. They got divorced a year after he made that statement to me.

  2. I asked myself what happened? Maybe he became like plastic wrap and was really clingy. In Ecclesiastes Solomon ponders the pleasures of life.

    1. Solomon explores with his mind, to see what good it is for men to do under Heaven for the few years of their lives.

    2. Solomon enlarged his works. He built houses, planted vineyards, made gardens and parks, planted fruit trees and made ponds. He also bought slaves, had some home born slaves, collected singers (both male and female), had concubines, and did many more things.

  3. Yet after all his labor, he was not satisfied. He was not happy. How many times have we tried to satisfy our happiness with the world?

That brings us back to the point that we can achieve happiness in the Word of God.

In Luke 1:28 Jesus tells us: "...Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it." The psalmist says that Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord.

We have to come unto Him, want to hear the Word, desire it, and thirst for it. Pastor rob Mooren said it well in one sermon, "God's Word is like a piece of chocolate cake. Once you got a piece of it you want more."

When we start to stay in the will of God, we can begin to understand happiness, because we are blessed.

In the Book of Matthew in chapter 5, the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells the people of the happiness:

- Blessed are the Gentle.
- Blessed are the Merciful.
- Blessed are the Pure.
- Blessed are the Peace Makers.
- Blessed are those who have been persecuted.

Jesus tells the people Blessed are you, happy are you, when men cast insults at you and falsely accuse you on His account.

True happiness comes from the joy of the Lord. Not from your own job, not from your spouse, dog, of truck.

Happiness is my Chevy. Sounds good, but that is all it is, just sounds. It has no meaning at all.

The false happiness of the ways of the world is a sin of itself. And lasts only for a moment because it feels good. But nothing of the world can ever bring eternal happiness.

Our happiness is in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Are you struggling today? Do you thirst for a true blessing for real happiness? Jesus told us that: "If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them." (John 13:17)

Come and let the Lord give you living water. Let Christ Jesus take your burdens and give you happiness in His everlasting joy.

Don't let the world give you false happiness. Let the joy of the Lord be in your life, that you may be really happy.

Let the Word of God be your guide. Let the Spirit of God fill you today, that you may feel the joy of the Lord.
