DON’T LET ONE BAD SEASON DEFINE YOUR WHOLE LIFE

From a sermon given on 16 August 2026:

For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
(Psalm 30:5)

Psalm 30 was written by David after experiencing a dramatic turnaround from a season of distress. He had known failure, opposition, sickness, and deep sorrow, yet he discovered that God's mercy outlasts every painful chapter. David reminds us that no night lasts forever. A difficult season is only one page in your story - it is not the title of your life.

Many people allow one disappointment, one failure, one betrayal, or one loss to shape their identity. But throughout Scripture, God repeatedly turned hopeless situations into testimonies. Joseph moved from prison to the palace. Naomi's bitterness gave way to restoration. Peter recovered from denial to become a bold apostle. Your current season is temporary, but God's purpose for your life is eternal. As Charles Spurgeon observed, "The darkest hour is just before the dawn."

If you are walking through a difficult season today, refuse to surrender to despair. Keep trusting, praying, and obeying God even when you cannot yet see the outcome. The same God who brings morning after the night is able to bring restoration after your tears. Do not build your identity around your pain; build it around God's promises. Your best chapter may still be ahead because God's favor always has the final word.

But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
(Genesis 50:20)

So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the Lord gave her conception, and she bare a son. And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the Lord, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel. And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him. And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it. And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
(Ruth 4:13-17)

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
(Romans 8:28)
